How is everyone doing here today? I guess most of you know who I am. I’m K, and I’m going to talk about the way of making air-plain and chair 3D models with 3Ds Max.
Let’s begin the presentation. First of all, you have to prepare the images as reference. You can google or visit a library or take a photo but remember, we need sharpen images that show all details of objects.
After collecting reference, you can start drawing images to your sketchbook with a pencil. This progress is relevant to understand the object. As much as you understand about it, you can get better result.
I’ll show you something what I had referred during my modeling. This is it. Now, I’ll tell you how to create these models. It’ll take about 20 – 25 minutes of your time. And you can ask anything after the presentation.
First of all, set the plan images to all viewports. Top, Front and side. These placements must be fit with another viewport images because we must look at from all sides. Start modeling with cylinder tool from left side. Drag all vertexes and segments to fit with plan images, don’t forget to consider to all sides. Now, you can make the wing part. Please don’t think about the detail at this stage. We’ll check it after. Creating a box and input few length, width and height segments by option panel to bend the box along with wing’s shape. Like this, making the second wing part. And don’t worry too much even if you only made a half piece of the airplane. An airplane has bilateral symmetry. So we can copy the left to right to make the whole body.
Please look at the cockpit. Let’s begin carefully. It doesn’t require a difficult skill. Making the box, converting it to poly. When you want to put curve, use the chamfer tool. Push, Pull, rotate, and move. When you want to extend the shape, you can use an extrude tool. I remind you again. Look at it from all sides. Then, you can get better result. Now, making a small cylinder, rotating it 45 degree to x
axis, and copy it 6 pieces to express the gas outlet. Extrude a commeasure part from the body, and use the ‘proboolean’ tool to make a hole, and arrange cylinders along with these holes,
and give more details. Now, we only have one part to make, propeller. Making the sphere and cut it half and pull it to y axis. Now it turned oval. And place it at a proper place. Now, making the rectangle which needs to be the proper size of propeller wing. Put 2 or 3 segment level, and pull the middle vertexes to both side, and pull down top part of vertexes to express the tip of the wing then give twist effect.
Now, it looks like an airplane even it is still very rough. Check all parts and refer them with the image. Also you can make wheels if you want. Then, it’s done. The point that I’d like to focus on is to go over the details and grasp the balance of the model.
Now, I’m going to explain how to make a plastic chair. It’s easier than an airplane. First of all, look a chair carefully, in person. Taking pictures of 3 sides. Front, top, and left. We are going to check these images as reference during modeling. Start with a light heart. Making plane first, and put a lot of segments. Think about the balance. Detail isn’t important at this stage. Extending proper borders to make backside of the chair, pull or push the segment to express armrest and legs. It’s very easy. Now, you have to check the line flow of this object. It looks very stiff. So put more segments to make it softer. Then, check the detail. It’s done. If you can make an airplane, you can make a chair easily.
We looked at the ways of modeling. Please keep in mind that you should observe the objects in real world to understand their structures. It’s more important than 3D technique. Thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to be here. If you have any question, please don’t be hesitating.
